Q1... What is SWOPSHOP?

SWOPSHOP is Dublin's premier fashion exchange boutique, where you can simply trade something you won't wear for something you will! At SWOPSHOP, you can upgrade the wardrobe you have tired of, at a fraction of high street prices, with even greater value on designer/higher end labels, using your own clothing and accessories as currency to 'pimp your wardrobe', as our tagline goes! *

 Q2... What is a 'ROADSHOW'?

SWOPSHOP was founded in early 2009 and thrived for over four years as a tiny bustling boutique located in Temple Bar. Itching to grow, but feeling a little constrained by our small physical store size vis-a-vis the significant cost premium on quality retail space, we had the idea of branching out via a pop-up format which meant we could move around cool venues and meet many more new 'pimpies'. Say 'HELLO ROADSHOW!'

Q3... What is meant by '3D'?

There are many great services that we always wanted to bring you that work so perfectly alongside swopping! But again, we were constrained by costly overheads restricting us to a small store size, rendering service delivery impractical. The bigger venues we are using in our new ROADSHOW format mean we can now bring you these extras such as makeovers, 'style clinic' and photoshoot features! So whilst swopping goodies is our core service, you can also enjoy a host of other fab event fixtures on the day!  We've teamed up with the award-winning MKF Institute (formerly MakeUpFablicious) to bring you these amazing '3D' features on the day - see here for details and do keep with us on Facebook too for further news on these!  **

 Q4... How many items can I bring to trade?

Due to the volume of guests we are expecting at the event and due to the time involved in grading, curating and checking out your items – there is a strict limit of SEVEN items per customer for this event.

 Q5... How are items graded/selected?

From the maximum SEVEN items that you bring, we will grade and accept the most suitable at our dedicated CHECK-IN area, though not all of your items may be accepted. Items are accepted and declined at the sole discretion of SWOPSHOP, based on a combination of quality criteria and practical factors such as: original point of purchase (no budget labels, e.g. Penneys/Dunnes own-brand), grade, condition, excess of similar items, season-appropriateness and saleability of individual item types. Items that are not accepted will be held for you in a 'hold' area at CHECK-IN and can be reclaimed when you are leaving the event. SWOPSHOP does not accept responsibility for lost/stolen deposited items.

Q6... What type of items can I bring?

Many items of clothing and accessories can be traded, providing pieces are in perfect condition, season-appropriate (Autumn-Winter clothing for this event only!), and reasonably on trend. Gently worn items should be laundered and ironed. Unfortunately, we cannot accept: budget clothing (for example Penneys/Dunnes own-brand), worn footwear, lingerie, or piercing jewellery. For ethical reasons, we do not accept animal fur products, though faux fur is accepted. Here is a photo album on our Facebook page showing types of items that may or may not be accepted in addition to these general criteria. Also on Facebook, we have just posted our WISHLIST album following a callout for your special requests... if you bring any of the items in this album (subject to regular acceptance criteria), we'll give you bonus credits in addition to your usual item credits on the day!

Q7... What if I have nothing to swop? Can I buy items too?

Of course! If you do not have suitable items you feel ready to part with or if you run out of swop credits at the event, you can also purchase pieces at very competitive price points. In fact, we are also offering you a 'price promise' which means the maximum purchase price on any individual piece is just €30, even for our highest end items available on the day!

Q8... How much does it cost to attend the event?

Two event packages are offered as follows:


  1. General admission is FREE subject to limited venue capacity. Thereafter, a service charge of between €0 and maximum €25 per item traded applies (purchase price maximum is €30) and you simply pay the appropriate service charge or purchase price per item traded or purchased. With the general admission option, you are not guaranteed entry to the venue at busy times, nor are you guaranteed admission to the '3D' features (makeovers, style clinic, photoshoots), though we will of course do our best to facilitate you on the day! The service charge depends on what you trade for what and a full pricelist showing trade and purchase price points will be on display on the day. Our friendly 'ROADIES' will also be on hand to help!


  1. (Limited 'early bird') SILVER ticket upgrade: For an advance ticket price of €10 plus booking fee (€1.35) you get: priority entry to the event, priority admission to '3D' services plus two prepaid discount credits, enabling you to acquire two 'new to you' items for as little as FREE and to a maximum of half price on our highest end items! (Service charge as per 'General Admission' above applies on remaining items). There are a limited number of SILVER tickets available and these will be on sale until 30th September only!  Q9... How does swopping/purchasing work on the event day?

Upon entering the venue, our 'ROADIE' hostesses will direct you to the CHECK-IN area! If you have a SILVER ticket, you will get to skip any queue at busy times! (Note: you MUST bring a PRINTOUT of your ticket to the event if you avail of this option!) At CHECK-IN, your items will be graded as per How are items graded/selected? section above. You will receive an appropriate credit for each item accepted which will be either 'High Street Basic', 'High Street High', 'Designer Basic' or 'Designer High'. If you have pre-purchased a SILVER ticket, in addition to credits awarded in respect of items accepted, you will also receive two bonus Designer Basic credits which will enable you to acquire two 'new to you' items for as little as FREE and to a maximum of half price on our highest end items! (Service charge as per 'General Admission' above applies on remaining items). Once you have been given your voucher and we have validated it, you are 'let loose' on the rails in the main 'shop floor' area! You can browse and select items, but you must 'CHECK OUT' before leaving this area at any time, i.e. we will need to check your newly acquired items against your voucher and you will need to pay any service charges due before leaving the 'shop floor'. This is important, as you many want to take breaks from the 'shop floor' to enjoy a 'ROADSHOW Rocks' cocktail at the bar or avail of some of our '3D' services in other parts of the hotel before resuming shopping/swopping! It is therefore necessary that you retain your voucher containing your credits at all times during the event.

Q10... When does the event start and end?

The event runs from 11.00am to 6pm on Saturday 12th October, however to facilitate last 'CHECK-OUTs' and clearing the venue post-event, the latest CHECK-IN for submitting items for trade AND to avail of '3D' features will be 4pm and latest CHECK-OUT 5.45pm!

Q11... What if I don't see anything I like?

We understand that you may want to preview our stock on the day before deciding whether to part with your pieces. If you do, we will hold your items at CHECK-IN and you will be given a 'purchase or preview only' voucher which will give you entry to the event and an opportunity to preview the merchandise! If you like what you see, you can return to CHECK-IN and we will then grade your items so you can get your credits and begin swopping. However, it is important to note that once you hand in your items to SWOPSHOP and receive your credits, items CANNOT be returned to you, as they will be immediately added to our rails and are deemed available for swop or sale. Again, due to the high volume of guests and pieces changing hands at the event, we will NOT be able to return any items once credits have been issued, so you must be sure that you want to part with your items before giving them to us!

Q12... What if I don't use all my credits?

We regret that credits awarded in respect of items traded can be used for the current event only. Using up your credits should not be a problem as we will have hundreds of 'new to you' pieces available at the event! Unfortunately, as pieces you give us are displayed for sale/swop immediately, we cannot allow you to take these back if you have credits left, however, at the end of the event (from 5pm), we will have a special 'credit amnesty pile' from which you can pick some free basic pieces if you do find you have a couple of credits left!

Q13... Can I trade multiple pieces for just one or two items?

No. Each piece that we accept from you gives you one credit and that one credit can be used to acquire one item in exchange, along with a small service charge to make the event viable. Multiple credits cannot be bundled to acquire fewer pieces simply because we would end up with too much stock and not enough dollars to run the event and to pay the kind people who facilitate the event!

Q14... Can I exchange items that I have traded or purchased?

No. Due to the nature of the event, this is not possible. We will endeavour to ensure items are of the highest quality, though occasionally defects may be apparent in preloved pieces, essentially items are 'sold as seen'.

 Q15... Can I pay by credit or debit card on the day?

Unfortunately due to the high volume of guests we expect and labour-intensive nature of the exchange process, we have decided not to accept cards at this event, though we may change this for future events. Please bring enough cash with you on the day – and there is a bank machine close by the venue if you run short!   If you avail of the SILVER ticket upgrade option, as above, you can purchase this by credit/debit card (Visa and Mastercard credit and debit cards accepted).

Q16... Will there be changing facilities on the day?

A basic changing area will be provided, but as we are dealing with a lot of people at once, it is best to wear 'shopping- appropriate' clothing, so that you can use our open changing areas rather than relying on a private changing space!

 Q17... Other Stuff...

We will provide security at the event, but you are responsible for your own belongings. As a basic security measure, it will not be permitted to take large hold-alls, backpacks, cases, or shopper bags into the main 'shop floor' or changing areas at the event. Neither is it possible to bring items you are 'considering swopping' into the area. We will provide a 'hold' area for all such items and endeavour to keep them safe for you, however no liability is accepted for belongings that go missing during the event.


THE MORGAN will be mixing a very special 'ROADSHOW ROCKS' cocktail for us on the day, which is available for just €7 all day up to 7pm along with a fine tapas menu!  The non-alchoholic  'ROADSHOW Angel', at just €6 is quite refreshing too! Cocktails and tapas can be enjoyed in the bar and in the courtyard/beergarden areas (where the photoshoots will also take place!), but cannot be consumed in the main 'shop floor' or CHECK-IN areas! Please don't overdo it - if you are rowdy, we will have no choice but to eject you from the event for the safety and enjoyment of our guests! ;)


SWOPSHOP reserves the right to alter or vary the programme due to events or circumstances beyond its reasonable control without being obliged to refund monies or exchange tickets.


The unauthorised use of photographic and recording equipment is prohibited during the event.


Event attendees consent to filming and sound recording during the event.


SWOPSHOP accepts no responsibility for any personal property.


Following ticket purchase (SILVER ticket option), you will receive an order confirmation email prompting you to print your ticket and bring it to the event. Please note that you must print and bring your ticket with you to the event as a condition of your admission.


We will not be responsible for any tickets that are lost or stolen.


Tickets are non-refundable except in the event of event cancellation.


SWOPSHOP shall not have any further liability beyond the face value of the ticket purchased plus the relevant per ticket service charge.


SWOPSHOP shall not be liable for any loss of enjoyment or wasted expenditure. Personal arrangements including travel, subsistence and accommodation relating to the Event which have been arranged by you are at your own risk.


All of these terms and conditions are governed by Irish Law and any disputes arising out of any transaction with SWOPSHOP are subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the Irish Courts.

Q18... What do I do next?
